Kelly Craig
2009 has been a pivotal year for Kelly Craig, with the continuation of his
sextet and an upcoming CD release, Kelly has come of age as a jazz player.
Percolating through an Ottawa Jazz scene, that went from mainly standard corporate
swing gigs to having live Jazz venues almost every night of the week, Craig has
earned his towering command of the trumpet and flugelhorn.
Years of these appearances, mainly in duos playing standard or Jams, helped
focus his desire and conception of the Kelly Craig Sextet. Ottawa’s now
fertile Jazz music scene is reflected in the Sextet’s current line up of
young musicians.
With a rare originality the Kelly Craig Sextet often surprise Ottawa’s
sophisticated Jazz audiences composing unheard standards with the
right-on feel of a masterpiece of the school.
